Murfreesboro TennesseeMay 8th, 1865 Dear Wife, I received your letter and was very glad to hear from you for it had been a long time since I have heard from you. I never was so glad to get a letter before as I was to get your last letter. I was very much alarmed when I first received the letter for I thought I must be you or the baby that was dead but when I saw who it was dead it caused me much sadness. Although I was not acquainted with him but it was on your account and James that caused my sadness. You know that I could not have the same feelings that I would have if I had been acquainted with him. Dear Wife I have one thing to tell you and this is the war is over with and we are all going to be discharged in a little while and I straight to you then. I hope you had a pleasant time going home bit I should been very glad to be with you when you went home but it could not be. You said in your letter that you had a hard time in Oswego but I hope you will not have it so much longer for I think is hall vibe with you in a short time. Do the best you can until I get with you again and I know that we never will get so far apart again as we are now but this was a misfortune for me that I am here now but I will but I have seen enough of the world now so I think I can be satisfied. We are looking for our money every day now. We was mustered for pay some time ago but have not got it yet. If we get out of the services now I will have five hundred dollars coming to . I’m glad to hear from home. I don’t know as I have anything more to say. I don’t know as I can say anything to your folks for I am not acquainted with them so I will hold my peace peace until I come there and then I will do my talking. I can send my good will to them and love to them all as my acquainted friends and relations I shall be very happy of their acquaintance and when I meet you at your father’s house. You know many that it always was my desire to make the acquaintance with your folks. My love to you all. I hope that I shall soon met with you all again in the best of health.
