Description: I have for sale a three piece officers badge for the Union Veterans Legion. The U.V.L. was founded in 1884 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and its membership was composed of soldiers, sailors, marines of the Union Army, Navy & Marine Corps who served during the Civil War, who had volunteered for a term of three years, & were honorably discharged for any cause after a service of at least two continuous years, or were at any time discharged by reason of wounds received in the line of duty. Individuals who were drafted were not eligible for membership. The membership requirements caused the U.V.L. to be much smaller than the Grand Army of the Republic. The U.V.L. existed until 1939 and their motto was Fraternity-Charity-Patriotism. The top pin back bar is metal, with gilded trim and shows two gold leaves. The bar is 1 1/2 inch wide. The red ribbon in the center is complete, but very frayed. The bottom piece is also metal, possibly silver? In the center of the bottom piece it has a shield with stars around and the letters U.V.L. in the center and the years 1861-1865 above. Out from the shield there are five extensions and the top three read UNION - VET'N 1884 - LEGION. The bottom two extensions show military items. The complete badge is 3 1/2 inches long. The items from the U.V.L. are scarce. Please see over 900 more collectible items for sale in my EBAY STORE at TE Collectables. (19,058 TRRA)
