Description: Very Rare 1922 1 cent George Washington stamp Very Fine condition. Scott Catalogue Collection: US #544 1922 Green 1cent George Washington Stamp, Very Fine Condition, Rotary Pressed Perforated 11x11 Less than 100 known to exist. “The Series of 1919-21 1¢ Washington stamps were part of an experiment to make rotary press printings that could be issued in sheet form. A previous stamp had been made with 10x11 perforations (US #542), but the sheets were found to be too brittle. So the perforation gauge was adjusted to 10x10 in US #543. This produced far fewer separations, and US #543 was issued in greater quantities. In late 1922, a small number of sheets were perforated 11 on all sides. These stamps went unnoticed until 1936 and they were added to Scott Catalogue two years later as US #544. Less than 100 are believed to exist today. Considered one of the great rarities of the 20th century.” - Mystic Stamp Company
