Description: Very Rare 1948 Official Truman Personal Christmas Gift to his Staff This is a very rare personal Christmas Gift given personally by President Truman while he was president in 1948 to only 740 members of his staff. This year Trumans official gift was a brown leather bookmark embossed with The Presidential Seal and his motto “I would rather have peace in the world than to be President” This was not a generic Truman White House gift but a gift ordered by Truman to give as a Christmas gift to Staff. Only 740 were given out to employees at The White House. This is one of the finest examples of these that I have seen in many years. Most of the surviving bookmarks are missing at least some of the fringe so finding one like this one with complete fringe but also with the gold embossing in such shape is very rare. The only signs of ware on this is a few small spots a slight crease in the middle and a few of the lower fringe tend to twist a little but they are all completely attached. If your looking for a complete bookmark make sure the fringe hasn’t been cut off to make it look complete. If you are a President Truman fan or a collector of Presidential Xmas gifts this is a must for your collection. This is a true museum quality addition to any Presidential collection. The last photo is the bookmark I have for sale next to the example in the Seeley book, a must have if you collect presidential Christmas gifts and cards.
