Vintage Made In Lucca, Italy Papier Mache Cartapesta Knife Sharpener Figurine

Description: This is a very rare handmade Salpa figurine depicting a Knife Sharpener/Grinder known in Italy at a Muleta. Fun fact, the original Muletas came from the small towns of Pinzolo and Carisolo in the Dolomites (Trentino) region of Italy. This figurine was never intended to be exported to the United States and is a very hard, if not impossible to find piece. Buyers from Europe, this does ship via ebay International Shipping (see below). Expertly crafted in Italy during the 1920s using papier mache Cartapesta, it is a rare must-have for any collector. Rarer and more sought-after in Europe than Fontanini. Authentication is from the markings on the base which has the large S containing the letters AL and PA with the word Lucca below that. The 161 is the model number and the C10 represents the size, 10 centimeters. The figurine stands 4 inches tall and 1 1/2 inches wide and 2 1/2 inches deep. He has a spot of chipped paint on his head and also has a white spot of scuffed paint next to that. The base has two spots of chipped paint and the back edge of his jacket is scuffed. Back Story:All nativity figurines, unless stated in its individual item’s description, were made and imported from Italy. I know this because I brought them from Italy to the United States myself. They all belonged to my uncle who lived in Cremona which is a Northern Italian town very close to the area where these statues were made. So close that he even knew some of the original artists who painted them for Emanuele Fontanini and others. My uncle recently passed away at the tender age of 95 but not before he amassed a very large collection of these figurines that he started so passionately acquiring shortly after WWII. It was his wish, mine to fulfill, to find new loving homes for his treasures so that the joy they bring to people does not die with him. I have done my best to provide the clearest images of the figurines and to describe any damages to them that I can see.
