Description: Carefully restored vintage ‘Dominion Super’ Snare Drum.Top of the range from Premier snare drums in early 1930's.The shell is Wood and measures 14” X 6.5”.It’s hard to be sure what wood was used, but I’ve been informed it’s a Birch shell with Beech reinforcing rings. It’s been re-wrapped in Delmar ‘Turquoise Glitter’ wrap. These Dominion Super’s have dual snare wires for extra sensitivity. Both snare mechanisms have been serviced and are in good working order. The top snares under the batter head are the originals, they had 12 strands when new. They’re missing 2 wires. The bottom wires are Premier New Era 16’s, and in great condition. The 2 adjustable extension parts at the top of the snare levers are present but one is not original to the drum, it was made to fit.The hoops and most metal fittings apart from the lugs are brass, and all original. The 8 lugs are some kind of composite metal. The lugs are self-aligning and they are the original lugs that came with the drum. A few years ago I came across 2 of the same lugs with the same finish online. I had to buy them as I might not get the opportunity again. They are actually in slightly better condition, so decided against mounting them. But I will send the 2 of them with the drum. Always good to have spares, just in case. Photo added! When new, all metal parts would of had the ‘Regal finish’. A 1930 offering from Premier.I added the brass Premier badge, it’s a genuine 1940’s badge. I used it to cover a small blemish which happened during wrapping. It’s attached with a good double sided tape. The snares at this time would not of had a badge. Fitted with new Aquarian American vintage batter and snare heads.(Heads and snares will be slightly slackened for posting ). Some further Details….It’s been completely taken apart, everything was cleaned, and where necessary parts replaced and repaired.Re-wrapped with ‘Delmar Glitter’ wrap the best quality wrap used by many of the top drum makers. It’s had 2-3 coats of varnish the inside, just to preserve. The bearing edges were left naturally bare. Originally all metal parts on the drum had the ‘Regal finish’.Premier offered the Regal finish for a “real gold look” .But this 30’s finish came with a warning. “Don’t use metal polish on it!.… As it will spoil the finish”. They weren’t joking! It’s completely gone from the hoops and most of the other parts, but can still be seen on parts of the lugs. These drums are from the earliest days of chromium electroplating, Premier had only started recommending Chrome as the most durable finish.Within a few years ‘Regal plating’ is replaced by ‘Royal Gold’ plating. The drum has been restored, cleaned and polished.Thanks.
