This is a Rebuilt OEM Sherwood G9901 raw water / sea water pump that was used on a wide range of Volvo Penta and OMC V6 and V8 engines including 4.3L, 5.0L, 5.7L, 5.8L, 7.4L and 8.2L. In can be used in place of Volvo Penta #3858847. The pump comes with the impeller pre-lubed and ready to install. The pump has a 6.5" pulley and this Sherwood pump is a good alternative to the Volvo Penta pump since it is easily serviceable and rebuildable. What is a good core? The main components of the pump are the Pulley, Bearing Housing and the Impeller Housing. I'm not picky when it comes to the overall condition of the core, however, do not send me back a pump that is known to be bad. Signs of a non-rebuildable core are 1) a cracked pulley 2) a bearing that pulls right off the pulley shaft 3) physical damage from someone trying to rebuild it. 4) Extreme salt water & rust from a pump that has been sitting and rusting for years.
