Description: The Collected Works in Verse & Prose of William Butler Yeats. Imprinted at the Shakespeare Head Press, Stratford-On-Avon MCMVIII [1908]. Published by Chapman & Hall, Limited, London. Complete set in eight volumes, bound in quarter vellum over light grey cloth. With engraved frontis portraits of Yeats in volumes 1, 3, 5. and 7. A very good set overall, bindings notably sound and firm, some light soiling to small areas of covers, faint traces of removed labels to pastedowns of some volumes. First 6 leaves of volume 8 fragmentary, (including half-title, title, contents page, chapter heading and first 2 leaves of text. Apparently an unfortunate misadventure when an early reader was separating the leaves, though not affecting much text. Shown in photos. Paper remnants laid in.). Contents fine overall, leaves clean and unmarked. A beautiful set of understated charm, printed on heavy laid paper, the typography is clean and elegant. Also quite interesting from a literary perspective as a mid-career collection of Yeats who was still quite a young man of 43 at the time of publication, with much of his most sublime work still ahead.
