Description: This week I'm offering a variety of collectibles, including trading cards as well as comics. Wallace Wood was arguably the finest artist of the 1950's and 1960's, and was particulary known for drawing stunningly beautiful women. Beginning in the Sixties, he explored the world of counterculture and non-mainstream illustration, and to that end, he began publishing Witzend, one of the very first high quality non-mainstream comics fanzines. Witzend featured stories and art by Wood as well as by other highly-regarded comics creators, freed from the limitations of the Comics Code. Witzend was turned over to Bill Pearson by Wood as editor and publisher after the first few issues, but he continued to contribute, as did many others. It was published irregularly into the early Seventies, and these issues remain quite rare, having had a low print run, and are highly collectible. Note that there is some nudity to be found among the illustrations in these issues... Here I have Witzend #1, dated Summer 1966. It's features some fantastic artwork by Wallace Wood, Al Williamson, Ralph Reese, Reed Crandall, Jack Gaughan, and a back cover illustration by Frank Frazetta!! There's some tape on the spine, but the interior pages are in nice condition (see scans for condition). I will say that the magazine is VERY rare and VERY much sought-after.
