WW2 Trench Art Desk Lamp Restored & Rewired (105mm, 40mm and 50Cal Brass Shells)

Description: ** Rewired & Restored ** Vintage WWII Trench Art Lamp This World War II trench art lamp is a recent estate sale find. At that time it showed its age and had cracked and unsafe cloth covered wiring. The decision was made to completely restore this hand crafted fixture to its original beauty. The lamp as shown in the photos is about 25". The oak base is about 5 7/8" in diameter with the underside felt covered to protect furniture tops. The harp is easily removed by the buyer and can be replaced with one of an alternate size. After disassembly, shell markings were noted and photographed. We are not experts on munitions but our findings date the parts as having been produced during the time period of World War II. The largest shell about 5 1/2" in diameter and it appears to be a 105mm M14 Howitzer shell. During the production of this trench art lamp, this shell had been shortened to a height of about 2 3/4". The factory markings normally found on the base of the shell apparently had been removed by sanding/polishing during the original production. The center shell is about 12 1/4" high and 2 1/4" in diameter. The markings found on the base (see photo) indicate that this is a 40mm MK1 shell produced in July of 1942. The two 50cal. shells with bullets each stand about 5 1/4" high. They are completely inert with no charge or primer. The bases of these shells indicate production during the time period of World War II (see photo.) The lamp cord is new rayon covered wire produced to resemble the lamp cords of the first part of the 20th century. The cord on this lamp is about 6 feet in length. The brass surfaces have recently been polished but no tarnish inhibitor has been applied. Over time these surfaces may need to be repolished.
