Description: WW2 United States M3 Combat Fighting Knife. This one is blade marked and dated: US M3 U.C. 1943. Knife has a cut-down U.S. M6 MILSCO 1943 leather sheath without the lower tie down portion (sometime done by US paratroopers). Knife is very heavily worn condition with a lot of wear, spotting, graying, corrosion, and use. Leather washers have several crack lines, and you can feel a bit of movement to the handle washers, however, overall, still secure. This came out of a local estate along with a US WW2 M1 front seam named and numbered paratrooper helmet and US Korea era 82nd Airborne decal M1 helmet shell. A great hard to find out of the woodwork untouched piece. Additional Notes: The M3 fighting knife was an American military combat knife first issued in March of 1943. The M3 was originally designated for issue to soldiers not otherwise equipped with a bayonet. However, it was particularly designed for use by forces in need of a close combat knife, such as Airborne Units and Army Rangers, so these units received priority for the M3 at the start of production. As more M3 knives became available in 1943 and 1944, the knife was issued to other soldiers such as Army Air Corps crewmen and soldiers not otherwise equipped with a bayonet.
